During the Global Health course I was very surprised to learn that some archaic issues still exist. Human trafficking being one of the most eye opening, especially here in America where we have the freedom of speech and police is at every corner. Furthermore, it is impermissible that most people look at the superficial things such the New York Fashion Week, yet we have people living on the streets, women living in shelters.

During the class, healthcare topic came up. I believe that health care should be equally given to everyone. We all pay taxes every year and health care should be treated as such. Why should we be obligated to pay the Government taxes and not have access to free healthcare? Why do we have to pay to improve our schools and roads and not our health? Insurance companies should not tell you what doctor to see. It does not matter if you are rich or poor, contributions should the same across the board.

At my current job, it was difficult for me to ask the golden question: “Do you feel safe at home” just because it made the patient and myself uncomfortable. Since taking this course, I am more comfortable asking and explaining  to patients the importance of the question.
