During nursing research class, we explored the importance of good research material, and what to look for to obtain the most accurate information. Evidence-Based Practice and research nowadays are extremely important for patient care. By researching what works when taking care of a patient, gives a patient the opportunity to receive the best care possible. If we do not use evidence based practice, we would be following erroneous or made up rules worthless for the patient. As far as barriers to overcome, I would say, making staff to “believe” and follow the rules is the most challenging. Research and EBP both investigates for best ways deliver and improve the care we give to patients. For instance, a Foley removal protocol states that it can only stay in the bladder for 48hrs to prevent the risk of getting an UTI. EBP have shown that the longer the catheter stays in the risk of infection increases. Research can help us with innovating supplies and information so infection is kept low. Furthermore, the course give us definitions such a validity, quantitative, qualitative research. For instance, to insure the research has validity and it is reliable, the research needs to be structure, unbiased and promote objectivity. That means, it needs to reflect accurate information from a whole population. For example, a research study regarding poverty levels in a rural part of a country should not include urban areas, for the research will not be reliable. Or if a survey is sent as a part of a research, conductors of the study should consider unreturned surveys.   Likewise, Likert-types scales was introduced. The scale measures attitudes and behaviors of individuals. A typical scale could be “A strongly agree, Agree, strongly disagree.
