Nursing Socialization is a course I have to dig way back and remember. This course touched upon topics such as nursing issues, management roles, and performance measures.

One of the highlights of this course was that I was able to interview one of the nursing supervisor's that I work with. I learned about what type of education she has, her preferred methods for conflict resolution, and her leadership style. From this project, I felt I learned more about qualities that a professional nurse should possess.

This course also required a group project and presentation about "performance measures". This was only the first of many group projects to come. I feel that working together on this group project helped to show how important teamwork is to the overall success of the project. Our group's project centered on research which shows that having a Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS) system in place is effective at preventing codes and therefore, lowering costs and improving patient outcomes.

Another requirement of the course was to choose an issue which is relevant to the nursing profession and write a "position paper" discussing the issue. I felt that this task gave me an opportunity to recall skills required to research a topic such as using databases such as CINAHL, identifying the most recent literature, as well as refresh my writing skills in APA style.
