My professional achievements began back in the military with training at the Academy of Science, Fort Sam Houston, as a Medical Specialist. I later attended and received Diplomas for Clinical Specialist and again for Pharmacy Specialist. During my military career, I attended college for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and was licensed in Alabama. I flew Flat Iron Helicopter Rescue while stationed in Alabama. I ran the Battalion Drug and Alcohol program while in stationed in Korea and was honored with the Army Commendation Medal (one of two) for my work. After leaving the service, I attended Central Florida Community College (CFCC) and earned my Associates Degree in Nursing. In my nursing career, I quickly rose on the clinical ladder because of my military experience. Having been an Instructor in the military and in my nursing career, I have taught Basic Cardiac Lifesaving (BCLS), for the military, the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association. At one time there were three versions! In 1992 I trained as an Advanced Cardiac Lifesaving  (ACLS) Instructor and taught at two area hospitals and many community offices and agencies. In 1990, I took the American Association of Critical Care Nurses' (AACN) exam and received my Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification, (at the time they had a 70% failure rate).  I have maintained that certification to date, 26 years. I was the Charge Nurse for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Ocala Regional Medical Center (ORMC), for nearly 10 years and the Hospital Supervisor for the last two years, later the ICU Supervisor at Munroe Regional Medical Center (MRMC) for the past 16 years. During my time at MRMC my ICU earned five consecutive Beacon Awards, one of only seven hospital units to have done so in the entire United States.  I served intermittently as Hospital Supervisor at MRMC  when the need arose. Now I am nearing completion of my Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN) which I am very proud of.
