SITUATION

First, I must say I did tree projects for my Star Competency.  The first one was about stating a protocol to keep out-of-state family member informed while decreasing the time of anytime phone calls. I thought it was a great project, but I have very low participation from my fellow coworkers, so I was unable to pursue the project for more than one day. The second, it was to start an ER triage protocol that would decrease ER Waiting Room time. The problem encounter was also lack of participation. So, I finally decided to approach Compassion Fatigue since I wrote two papers unknowingly during this program.

TASK

The ProQOL stool was used during the project. The tool assesses participants by giving a score from 5-1, five given to a “very often, and 1= never.

Doing the assessment tool was very funny because the first question on the list was, “I am happy.” So many of them smile, others said “Do you want me to fill this out now or at the end of shift” Also, a hand full gave me back the questioner as soon as they read the first question.

Overall, the participants result show normal level of compassion satisfaction, low levels of burned out.

ACTION

Since the end of shift was the time where participant was stress the most. I started doing a Vent therapy session.

Session were in a volunteer basis. A total of 5 session were completed. Low participation and the same participants attended to the five sessions.

RESULT

The Vent therapy session not only help others, but it helped me. It avoided from going stress home after a busy day. The talk consisted on just expression or feeling about the day. There was not a right or wrong scenario, the objective was to talk about it so we feel better before going home.
