NUR4667- Global Health Care Issues and Trends in Professional Nursing

Course Reflection

Global health care issues and trends in professional nursing has been an extremely beneficial course for my nursing career. In the beginning of the semester, I was not expecting this course to change my perception of health care as much as it has. Throughout the entirety of the course, each week changed my personal feelings and views toward not only our countries health care, but other countries health care as well. Unfortunately, it has shown me many negative aspects of the inequality in health care, but also great advancements that are taking place to better health care. There have been many instances where I take care of a patient from a different culture than my own. Using some of the information that I’ve gained from this course I was able to be understanding and show compassion for the patient and their family during a difficult time in their lives. My most favored assignments during this semester were the news blog discussion posts, more specifically, the nationwide and global news blog posts. There aren’t many times that the entire world has been going through something difficult together, at the same time. COVID-19 was one of the main topics of these blog posts, because it is a pandemic that is not affecting one part of the world, but the entire world as a whole. We may not understand each other’s cultures, but we can all understand the stress, pain and agony that this pandemic has caused. I pursued my BSN degree because I not only wanted to be a better nurse, but research has shown that BSN-educated nurses have higher proficiency in their profession, and fewer mortality rates. Of course, I want to be a better nurse, but I also want to be a safe and knowledgeable nurse who is always aiming for professional advancement. Lastly, one thing that this course has taught me is that I would like to help those that experience the tremendous difficulties with inequality in health care. It would be an honor for me to use my skills to provide quality health care to individuals who need it the most. This course has opened up many new horizons for me in my nursing career, and I will take all of the information learned throughout the entirety of the semester and use it to better myself as a nurse, and eventually teach others how to be great nurses and improve their nursing careers as well.
