Course Reflection

This course has been my favorite course during the BSN program thus far. It has not only taught me information on countless subject areas, but also has given me great insight to how nursing theorists and their perspectives of nursing. There are so many great examples of nursing theories to use as a framework and guide as a new nurse. Using the wonderful examples of nursing theories given in the text, I was able to write a personal nursing philosophy paper that gave my own perspective on nursing. This was a great assignment because it helped me to realize how patient oriented I am. I do not just want to treat the patients illness, I want to take care of them as a whole, mind, body, and soul. I also learned just how important patient interaction and rapport is. Without building a rapport with patients, they will not trust us as their caregiver. One of my favorite nursing theorists to learn about was Joyce Travelbee. Her nursing theory really stuck out to me because it basically defined how I feel about nursing. Her theory was one that I used for my group project, as well as an example given in my nursing philosophy paper. The text in this course kept me intrigued throughout the semester, and I can say that I learned a tremendous amount of new information that I can apply to my nursing career.
