Overall, this course has been incredibly informative and has kept me on my toes especially as a brand-new nurse. The online platform although so isolating, was actually very social and I felt that I had great contact with my peers and instructors. Our discussion board posts between one another were always interesting and every person always had a great point of view on the different topics that we discussed. With school coming to an abrupt stop in March 2020 due to COVID-19, I honestly missed getting out and going to classes and seeing peoples’ faces without masks. However, the online platform that we have been using for our classes has allowed us to stay in contact with each other and have some type of social life still. At the beginning of the course in August, I was not only beginning classes, but I was also beginning a brand-new job as a Registered Nurse for an HCA facility which has extensive training. Additionally, I am home schooling three children. I was honestly worried that I wouldn’t have enough time to learn anything in these courses, and I would just be task focused only worrying about completing assignments and not taking anything away from it. However, I have been proven wrong. Professional Socialization has been one of my favorite courses in nursing thus far. My favorite part of the course was the nursing issues position paper. It was eye opening to see the different perspectives I had on both points of view. Also, one of the most beneficial take-aways that I have from this course is the STABEN approach to conflict resolution. I feel that learning about this method of conflict resolution was so beneficial to me especially as a new nurse, I may be put into difficult situations that I may not know how to navigate just yet. I will use all of the information taught to me throughout this course and use it to move forward in my nursing career.
