EBP course has been very helpful in formulating a research based on clinical expertise. According to the Medical Surgical Nurses association, EBP is a method of assessing the most up to date expertise, clinical guidelines and patient values to provide quality care to patients. Whereas Research, makes theories and inquiries to generate test of a certain topic. In nursing, is it necessary to have a bit of both, but considering the EBP as main method.

Evidence-Based Practice and research nowadays are extremely important for patient care. By researching what works when taking care of a patient, gives a patient the opportunity to receive the best care possible. If we do not use evidence based practice, we would be following erroneous or made up rules worthless for the patient. As far as barriers to overcome, I would say, making staff to “believe” and follow the rules is the most challenging. Research and EBP both investigates for best ways deliver and improve the care we give to patients. For instance, a Foley removal protocol states that it can only stay in the bladder for 48hrs to prevent the risk of getting an UTI. EBP have shown that the longer the catheter stays in the risk of infection increases. Research can help us with innovating supplies and information so infection is kept low.
