Hence, a patient's glucose could drop rapidly if not eating within thirty minutes. Most of the time, meals are not at beside at 0800. So, nursing judgment will let you give the medication late until meal tray arrives. So, we are protecting the patient's brain from a hypoglycemic event. We are always to follow what doctors orders are for patients, but nurses have to make sure the shoe fits.
