Human flourishing is a term encompassing an individual's optimal state of well being. Flourishing is important to physical, emotional, and social health. As a nurse I strive to provide holistic care to my patients and holistic care focuses on the many needs individuals need to thrive. One way to help patients flourish is to look for ways to go the extra mile. The course has instilled in me that listening to your patients is just as important as physical assessment and that including patients in their decision making is key to promoting self sufficiency. Often times in order to get patients to flourish , one must think outside the box and create a new path for success. Everyone flourishes best under different circumstances and some may take longer to do so. It is important not to rush the flourishing process, but to cherish each milestone and the state of satisfaction that comes with it. In many respects flourishing is like a plant. Some grow best under direct sunlight and frequent watering, and others can be given information, and even in "rocky soil" or "drought" take root, and grow where they're planted without much intervention. The biggest thing when it comes to flourishing is to recognize the growth, no matter how slow or how small the change is.
