Professional Socialization examined how nursing has developed over the course of it's existence and how different nurses and theorists have played a key role in forming the foundation for how nurses practice today. By utilizing the foundation and actively searching for the best approach to care , we can look to our predecessors and look towards the future of making nursing holistically centered.

Although each of the theorists explored throughout this course had valuable approaches to nursing care, I felt that nurse Leininger’s approach was most suited to my taste. I feel this way because I believe that recognizing and appreciating cultural differences in one’s patients is imperative to providing holistic care. A good nurse is aware of their own cultural values and belief system, and at the same time does not hold an ethnocentric attitude, but rather, actively looks for ways to better serve patients by incorporating and acknowledging their cultural backgrounds.
